Ceremony and Reception
We’re getting married at Schuba’s Tavern at 3159 N. Southport Avenue (corner of Belmont and Southport) in Chicago, Illinois on Sunday, March 29, 2020. The time will be as confirmed on the invitations. We currently plan for a midday wedding.
The reception will immediately follow in the same location.
Hotels and Transport
The Best Western Hawthorne Terrace
We have set up a block of rooms at the Best Western Hawthorne Terrace Hotel. It is located at 3434 Broadway, 1.3 miles from the wedding venue. The nightly rate is $189 for a single or double occupancy room with one queen-sized or king-sized bed or two double beds. This hotel also offers parking for $25/night. Please make reservations by calling (773) 244-3434 and mentioning the Newman-Leverett wedding. Book by February 28, 2020, to get the group rate.
The Hotel Versey
Hotel Versey is located at 644 West Diversey Parkway, 1.3 miles from the wedding venue (in a slightly different direction than the Hawthorne). We do not have a block of rooms set up here, but we recommend this hotel for its convenient location. The nightly rate is about $139 for a single or double occupancy room. To make a reservation, visit their website or call 773-525-7010. Please book early to ensure the best availability and rates.
Most of the hotels in Chicago are located or near downtown (the Loop and the Magnificent Mile); in fact, that area has about 300 hotels. If you’d like to stay in one of them, that can be a good option. However, the wedding will occur about 5 miles away. Before booking, you may wish to check with the hotel about whether it is convenient to the Red or Brown line El trains (as most of the hotels in this area will be), because these trains will be fast and easy ways to get to the wedding.
An important Note
Our wedding is in the same neighborhood as Wrigley Field, the stadium where the Chicago Cubs play. Our wedding date was chosen to minimize the possibility of baseball-related crowding in the area. However, we now know that the first home games of the season will be on March 30 and April 1, immediately after our wedding day. We have set up a block of hotel rooms at a hotel less likely to experience crowding with Cubs fans (who can be rowdy). In addition, we strongly urge you to avoid the Hotel Zachary at Addison and Clark; this hotel is mere steps from Wrigley Field and routinely experiences crowding and noise directly outside on game days.
Cars and Parking
The wedding venue is reachable by car. Street parking in the area in the area is limited. For a public garage, please visit the Vic Parking at 3130 N. Sheffield Avenue, about 4 blocks east of the venue.
If you need parking very close to the venue due to disability or for any other reason, please contact Jason and Sophia for help arranging it.
It’s feasible to take public transportation to the wedding. From the Best Western Hawthorne Terrace Hotel, walk south on Broadway to Belmont and board the Belmont Avenue bus (route #77) west to Southport Avenue (about 1 mile). Note: you can pay cash or use a CTA fare card for this bus.
From the Hotel Versey or any hotel in the Loop or Magnificent Mile, take the El train (Red or Brown lines) north to the Belmont Avenue stop. From the station, walk west on Belmont Avenue or ride the Belmont bus (route #77) west to Southport Avenue (a little over half a mile). Note: a fare card is required for the El train (available in all stations), and it will include a transfer for the bus.
For information on paying bus and El train fares, see the CTA website.
Possibly the Best Option
A taxi or ride share (Uber/Lyft) is also a great option and will bring you right to the door.
Is the venue disability accessible?
Yes. The venue is wheelchair accessible, and there is a service elevator for those who cannot climb stairs. There is also a limited amount of parking at the venue for drivers using disabled parking spaces. If you need other accommodations, please let us know.
What should I wear?
Semiformal attire is fine, or wear whatever makes you happiest.
Are children welcome?
Yes! When you RSVP, please indicate how many will be coming with you.
I have a dietary restriction. How should I let you know?
Fill out the contact form, email Sophia or Jason, or note it on your RSVP. We’ll do our best to accommodate you.
What is this website?
Sophia is a freelance writer who has had a professional website for years. Rather than setting up a whole new website, we just set up our wedding information here. Feel free to look around.
